Breckinridge County 4-H Livestock Club

Breckinridge County 4-H Livestock Club

4-H livestock programs and projects have a long history in Kentucky. These livestock activities provide youth with opportunities to learn about livestock and develop the life skills that are needed to be positive contributors to society. Through livestock programs and projects youth learn about livestock selection and evaluation, nutrition and feeding, health and daily care, reproduction, marketing, career opportunities, and much more. In addition, youth learn the importance of hard work and responsibility, and also develop important life skills, such as, critical thinking, decision-making, and communication.

Currently, the Breckinridge County Youth Livestock Club meets monthly with activities to help members complete beef, goat, lamb, and swine projects. Many local youth show livestock at the County Fair, District Shows, and KY State Fair; gaining experience caring for and showing livestock, while developing leadership, teamwork, communication, and other life skills.

2025 Livestock Validation Information

This information applies to 4-H and FFA members who plan to exhibit livestock at the Kentucky Department of Agriculture District Shows and the Kentucky State Fair Youth Livestock Shows.
Please read carefully!
  • All youth who wish to exhibit Market Beef, Swine (market & breeding), Sheep (market & commercial), and Goats (market & commercial) at either KDA District Shows or the Kentucky State Fair must complete the Livestock Validation Process. This process requires in-person tagging at one of the official validation sites.
  • New validation forms have been developed.  These forms must be completed in advance and brought to the validation site.
  • Breeding animal nomination forms are no longer required for any species.  Please note that all Market Beef, Swine (market & breeding), Sheep (market & commercial), and Goats (market & commercial) must be validated and receive a KUIP tag.
  • All exhibitors are required to have a National Premises ID before coming to the Validation Site.  If the location where the animal will be housed has a National Premise ID, that number will be used.  If the location where the animal will be housed does not have a National Premise ID, please follow the steps in the attached document to secure one prior to travel to the Validation Site.  No animals will be tagged without a National Premise ID.
  • To show at the Kentucky State Fair, Market Beef, Swine (market & breeding), Sheep (market & commercial), and Goats (market & commercial) must show at a KDA District Show. The Schedule of KDA District Shows can be found in the links to the right.
